Orthodontics

At Howth road dental we offer clear aligners and 6 Month Braces orthodontic treatment, which are a more traditional method of straightening teeth using brackets and wires. In either case, if you are interested in getting your teeth straightened you should have a chat with your dentist, at your next routine appointment to see if your teeth are suitable. Depending on the severity of your teeth alignment issues, your dentist may recommend one treatment or the other.

6 Month Braces
At Howth Road Dental we can provide you with a new, beautiful smile by quickly and safely straightening your teeth in 6 months or less. The 6 Month Smiles system uses specialised, low-force wires to focus on correcting and aligning your front six teeth to give you your ideal smile with natural looking results.

6 Month Braces are most suitable for patients with mild to moderate crowding or alignment issues with their front teeth. During your initial consultation with our dentist we will discuss your treatment plan at length, and if you prefer to change your overall bite  then conventional braces might be a better option for you.

We offer both an aesthetic white or a metal finished brace, to suit your personal preference. The white brace is tooth-coloured, making this an attractive option for our adult patients who want a more discreet treatment. You can carry on with your daily life uninterrupted and no one will even notice that you are wearing braces.

How do 6 Month Braces Work?
Your dentist will undertake a comprehensive oral examination to see if you are suitable for 6 Month Braces. Our dentist will address any questions or concerns that you may have regarding the range of braces and orthodontic treatments available. Then an X-ray will be taken to determine the state of your teeth and gums to ensure there are no underlying issues.

Following this you with attend your initial appointment to fit your 6 Month Braces. Your dentist will schedule monthly maintenance appointments to monitor your progress, and tighten your braces as required.

Some minor discomfort can be expected when you first get your 6 Month Braces fitted. This is a good sign that your teeth are moving, and absolutely nothing to be concerned about. Within 24 hours any tenderness will begin to fade away, and your teeth will have completely settled by the end of the first week.

It is important that you commit to proper oral hygiene while wearing your braces so you can get the best results from your treatment. Our dentist or hygienist can advise on this maintenance routine during your first visit to fit your braces. Once your treatment is complete, we strongly recommend that you wear a removable orthodontic retainer. We also offer a fixed retainer that is permanently bonded to the back of your teeth if you prefer this option. A retainer is required to ensure your teeth do not move back to their original position in the longer term.
